Google Adsense Videos, Conversion and Branding
Filed Under Contextual Advertising | Comments Off
Re the Google video ads, I just made an observation about them this week while doing some surfing on sites of interest.
I almost made a purchase while watching a Google Adsense video I came across on some site. I didn’t because I’ve already got an appliance of that type, just not as cool as the one in the video, so I resisted. But I sure do remember the URL and name of that neat gadget. I’d say they’ll be effective if they’re targeted to reach the particular audience demographic the site attracts.
The downside that’s possible is that the branding that they can give may not result in an immediate conversion, so if a person returns in 3 months time and makes a purchase, then that sale might not be traceable as having originally been prompted by the customer having seen the video.
The new ad formats were announced a few days ago

I put an image ad on a page I’m working a while ago today, and while the targeting wasn’t a fit for that particular page, which is very specific, the demographic target was right so I’ll probably be paying more attention to image ads, which I haven’t so far been running, and put them on pages that are more general, which would be suitable for a broader approach to the type of visitors the site attracts.
I like them, and I believe they’ll do well for advertisers if they evaluate them over a longer period of time than for text ads, since there’s a lot of power potential in the branding they provide.

I’m enjoying reading the “How to Search” section at about.com where guide Wendy Boswell has some interesting articles and points to some excellent resources:
